A School Social Worker's goal is to promote and enhance the overall academic and the social experience for all students and they work to strengthen connections with student's home, school and community to shift barriers to learning.
As School Social Workers we work to contribute to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student successes and by implementing effective intervention strategies. This work can be done through direct instructions in the classroom and individually with students. We also work with students in groups to encourage positive social peer interactions.
School Social Workers work with teachers, and all staff, to educate on the effects of bullying, and to reduce the incidents of peer aggression. In addition, we adhere to all of the guidelines of the NASW Code of Ethics, as well as, follow all of the Federal and State guidelines as it relates to our duties.
